To encourage busines retention and promote economic development while preserving the quality of life in Valley County, Nebraska.

Economic Development Board & Staff

The Economic Development Board consists of an eight member Board of Directors. Each of the four involved entities (City, County, Chamber and Greater Loup Valley Activities, Inc.) appoints 2 individuals to serve on the eight member Economic Development Board. The Board has a regular monthly meeting at at the Valley County Economic Development Board office at 1514 K Street, Ord, Nebraska on the fourth (4th) Wednesday of each month beginning at 12:00 noon. All meetings are open to the public.

Economic Development Priorities

During 2008-2009 the Valley County Economic Development Board will focus on the following priorities:

  • Continue to assist existing businesses within Valley County.
  • Recruitment of new businesses based on current target industry study.
  • Public relations campaign to area residents.
  • Continue to pursue Central Community College for campus in Ord.
  • Downtown Reviatilization Program.
  • Grant writing for community projects.
  • Joint meetings each year with public boards to encourage open communication and long range planning.

Target Industries

The Valley County Economic Development board adopted an updated Target Industry Study in 2008. The top three targets are as follows:

  • Workforce Attraction
  • Biofuels Co-products
  • Light Manufacturing

Available Buildings and Sites

Local Incentives

City Sales Tax - LB840, was approved by Ord voters in 2001. Proceeds from the sales tax will be used for low-interest loans, loan guarantees and performance-based grants for economic development projects in Ord and Valley County. The fund creates approximately $400,000 per year for 15 years for economic development projects. Possible uses for the sales tax funds include business recruitment, business expansions or start-ups, purchase of real estate for development and much more. Economic Development Re-Use Fund, is a regional plan for projects located within Valley County. The objectives of the reuse fund are to provide financing for start-up and existing businesses that cannot obtain conventional financing, to attract new business to the area and to create and retain jobs for low to moderate income persons. The minimum loan amount is $5,000 and the maximum loan amount is $20,000. An application review committee has been created to review applications. Loup Valley Investment Club, LLC, 1545 M Street, is a Nebraska limited liability company. Members of the investment club invest their personal funds into the treasury of the company on a monthly basis in order to fund operations and pursue company objectives. This organization has an objective of assisting with community wide economic development by pursuing business start-up, expansion, and development. To do so, members of the LLC screen requests from entrepreneurs and potential new business' in order to make an informed business decision concerning funding of the requests. Projects that are approved by investment club members then receive funding from the LLC in the form of an "investment" rather than as a loan. Current projects of the investment club include a 10,000 square foot spec building and a housing development. For more information contact Gaylord Boilesen at (308) 728-7217.

Tax Increment Financing (TIF) The City of Ord has the ability to us TIF to assist a new or expanding business. For more information, contact the City office at (308) 728-5791.
